There’s going to be a new book set in the Lord of the Rings universe – 45 years after the death of creator J.R.R. Tolkein.
The Fall of Gondolin tells one of the earliest stories of Middle-earth, a classic tale of good vs. evil that sets the stage for the rest of the fictional world, The Guardian reported Tuesday. The book, edited by Tolkein’s son Christopher Tolkein, is coming out in August.
The new book is described as “the first real story” of Middle-earth — a preface to The Silmarillion. It focuses on Morgoth, the first Dark Lord and basically an embodiment of evil, who is trying to find and destroy the city of GondolinThe Fall of Gondolin includes the first instances of orcs and balrogs and even has an appearance from the sea god Ulmo along with dragons and elves.
